Finals, Fish and Fun 2026
Finals, Closing Drive and Fish and Chips 5th September 2026
The day started off with the final of the Open Pairs. It was great to see a youngster competing with the slightly older players. It turned out to be a very tight match, going down to the final bowl of the end, when it looked as if a wick might take the shot bowl off the jack, but it didn't happen. Sarah Copcutt and Cheryl Boutcher finished one shot ahead of Zac V and Steve Dembicki.
The men's singles saw Lindsay Horstead take on Bob Lee, with Lindsay taking the lead and keeping it to win the trophy.
The ladies singles was a much closer affair with neither Helen Hanley or Cheryl Boutcher able to establish much of a lead. Helen eventually reached 21 on the 27th end to retain the title.
The afternoon continued with the closing drive and 3-2-1 bowls, where the shot bowl scores 3, 2nd 2 and 3rd 1, with an extra point for any touchers. The scoreboards had numbers used which rarely see the light of day! Thank you Watton for the idea - we may give Irish Bowls a try next.
The day finished with fish and chips for about 40 people - players, family and friends with the new covered area providing an ideal space for the diners.
Thanks to all the players, supporters, washers up, green preparers, competition organisers, bar keepers and tea makers. A particular thanks to Sylvia for organising the fish and chips and Dave Gamble for the green which was a real credit to him after a difficult season.
Apologies for not including pictures of some parts of the day - the camera person was otherwise occupied.
